A 15-member delegation of the ruling BJP’s coalition partner tribal-based Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) visited the Siliguri headquarters office of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha on August 10th, 2019. The delegation is on a Gorkhaland study tour and will be meeting various social and political organisations involved in the Gorkhaland movement.
The IPFT has two cabinet Ministers in the Biplob Deb-led government. The carving out of the state of Twipraland from Tripura for the Tiprasa tribals is a long-standing demand of the IPFT. The delegation met the Secretary-General of BGP, Nirmal Pun and Organisation General Secretary, Akash Lama and discussed various aspects of the statehood demand movement.
Balaram Debbarman, advisory chairman IPFT, who led the delegation said, “The Tripasa people have a lot to learn from Gorkhaland leaders and from its think tank organization Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh which is spearheading the Gorkhaland movement intellectually and supporting the agitating fronts on the ground with intellectual intervention.”
Pun expressed Gorkhas solidarity towards statehood demand of Twipraland under the IPFT leadership and umbrella leadership of National Federation for the New States.
The delegation left for Darjeeling Hills after the meeting to meet the agitating groups and political parties and civil society organisations as apart of there Gorkhaland statehood study tour.
